The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies has long championed environmental restoration and preservation. Our partnership with the PA Department of Environmental Protection is a cornerstone of those efforts. Along with the DEP’s Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation, the grant-making Foundation for PA Watersheds, numerous local municipalities, and local environmental and recreation groups, we’re tackling this region’s environmental challenges one river, one refuse pile, one shuttered treatment plant at a time.

Eric Cavazza, Director of the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation, addressed CFA Board members at their February 1 meeting, where he shared progress reports on a number of cleanups happening throughout Bedford, Cambria, and Somerset counties. These projects are happening right in our backyards – and they’re working. Click on the link below to see his full report:
