Our Approach to Exercising Expenditure Responsibility

When the Community Foundation awards grants, we are required by the IRS to exercise expenditure responsibility. Grantees are required to agree that all funds from any grant checks they cash will be used exclusively for charitable purposes and will either be held in a separate account or tracked with separate accounting. Grantees also are required to submit a final report within one year of the check date.
