JOHNSTOWN — The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies announced Thursday that it will be granting $10,000 in honor of its 25th Anniversary.

“We chose this idea of $10,000 to signify our 25th Anniversary because it’s never been done before,” said Mike Kane, President. “This is a unique giving opportunity for the community.”

In celebration of the Community Foundation’s 25th Anniversary, we encourage you to think about these questions:

  • What inspires or energizes you?
  • How would you like to make an impact?
  • What do you love in our community?

Please think about how you would answer these questions, then come to our 25th Anniversary Celebration prepared to support the causes that you care about with funds we are making available.

There will be four $2,500 drawings — $10,000 in all — to commemorate our 25th Anniversary. If your name is chosen, you can direct $2,500 into any one of our over 540 funds. Or, you could even start a fund of your own. We also will invite you to say a word about your cause if you’d like. There’s only one catch: you have to be present.

“We thought it was an opportunity to ask people to think about what they care about and to invite them to put it into action,” said Kane.  “That’s what philanthropy is, that’s what the foundation is about.”

You can start thinking this over by reading about all of the funds  online at the Foundation. Here you can see what your neighbors are doing to support our community and learn about our many community partnerships. You’ll be amazed. If you are already a donor, thank you! Please look and see the wonderful company you keep.

Together with our donors and nonprofit partners, we are changing our community. We hope you will join us at our event on July 9th.  To purchase tickets click on CFA for details.
