CFA understands that applicants may choose to use AI tools to support their scholarship applications. We welcome the use of these and other tools, as long as the applicant remains fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of all submitted content. Please note that all of our applications are reviewed by teams of local volunteers. These reviewers do not use AI in their evaluation process. They are looking for thoughtful, personal, and authentic responses. Applicants who take the time to share their individual stories, perspectives, and genuine voices typically stand out and are more successful. If you are going to use AI to assist with your scholarship application, please adhere to these guidelines:

What you can do with AI

  • Brainstorm essay ideas or structure
  • Check grammar and clarity in your writing
  • Understand scholarship requirements
  • Practice interview questions

What you should NOT do with AI

  • Do not submit AI-written essays as your own.
  • Do not use AI to fake documents or achievements.
  • Do not rely on AI to tell your personal story.
  • Do not share sensitive personal data with public AI tools.

Tips for ethical AI use

  • Use AI as a tool, not a substitute.
  • Always review and revise AI-assisted writing.
  • Ask a mentor or teacher to review your final draft.
  • When in doubt, contact CFA Scholarship Coordinator Hannah Ernest at [email protected].

Information For Donors: Scholarship Funds

Establishing a scholarship fund is one way donors can honor loved ones, inspire young people, and invest in our community’s future. As they design their legacy, donors can elect to support a field of study they are passionate about, support a particular school district or type of student, or tailor their fund in any direction that is meaningful to them.

Families can also honor their loved ones and provide scholarship support through the Community Foundation’s Memorial Scholarship Fund, with contributions directed to support pathways to higher education for local students. This special fund is endowed, so any contribution you or others make on behalf of a loved one will be there to support local causes forever. CLICK HERE to find information on including the foundation’s Memorial Scholarship Fund in an obituary.
