Trade School Scholarship Created in Honor of Beloved Bedford Resident

Jeff Dull could fix just about anything.

Carpentry. Roofing. Painting. Car repair. He was handy, a friend to everybody, and he could tackle any job. He was happy to do so, too, despite a busy work schedule at Kennametal Inc., where he worked for the past 25 years.

“Jeff was always one to help somebody,” his partner Bethany Colledge said. “He was so good at everything. He could just fix or do anything. He always wanted his kids, my kids, and others to do well.”

Now his loved ones have set up a scholarship fund in Jeff’s honor after he passed away this year from COVID-19 complications. He was only 53. A father of two—Jacob and Jordan—he leaves behind many friends and a community of people who remember his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a hand. He also spent time every week with a close-knit group of friends, most often in Jeff’s driveway, chatting about life and enjoying each other’s company.

The Jeff Dull Memorial Scholarship will provide two awards: one for Bedford County Technical Center students and another for Bedford High School students who are pursuing post-secondary education. The scholarship will be given to students who have exuded hard work and dedication to their schooling, community, and work in general.

“We hope this scholarship helps keep Jeff’s memory alive, I don’t want anyone to forget about him,” Colledge added.

Jeff’s son Jacob said his father could be seen during the summer and fall months riding around in his 1978 Corvette, a car that he built from the engine up. And when he wasn’t spending leisure time in his favorite ride, or with his dog or boys in his garage, you could find him doing work at Kennametal, or all around the town of Bedford.

“Jeff was known by coworkers, friends, neighbors, and family alike as one of the hardest working and most helpful people you could’ve ever known,” Jacob said. “He was always finding himself with a tree to cut down, house to paint, or new wall to put up.”

Giving students the opportunity to benefit from the hard work and dedication they’ve displayed throughout their high school career is something Jeff would be very proud to represent, he said.

“Jeffrey Dull is a man who is loved and will be remembered by so many, and this scholarship will be in remembrance of his continuous dedication, and willingness to lend a hand to his family, friends, and community,” Jacob added. “So we wish that the recipients of this award recognize the importance and the impact their work has had on so many, just as Jeff’s had for over 50 years.”
