CFA Earns Platinum Seal of Transparency

We are proud to announce that the Foundation has been recognized with the highest rank for transparency through GuideStar by Candid, a nationally established source of information about U.S. charities and nonprofit organizations. The service includes a database of more than 1.8 million IRS-recognized organizations.

CFA, which previously had provided enough metrics to achieve GuideStar’s Gold Seal status, now has earned a 2021 Platinum Seal of Transparency, the listing’s highest possible rank. The seal involves making CFA strategy, metrics, and achievements available at the Foundation’s nonprofit profile on Candid, among other tasks.

“The new GuideStar Seal confirms our commitment to being open about the ways we are managing and investing donations to our community,” CFA President Mike Kane said. “While we appreciate this formal recognition, we’ve always worked hard to make our process and financials as transparent as possible. Our website provides regular updates on our grants and donations. We know trust is important to our donors and our community, and it’s important to us, too. We believe it’s the right thing to do.”

In fiscal year 2020, CFA made $7,125,047.39 in grants and $566,507 in scholarships. Full lists of grantees and award amounts are available at cfalleghenies.org/about. The same page also has full lists of fiscal year 2020 donations and other financials, including statements of activities and financial position, as well as the most recent audit and more.
