The 2016 Apollo Award Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, November 9th at the Holiday Inn in downtown Johnstown beginning at 6:30 p.m. Two fourth-year medical students will each receive $20,000, the greatest amount ever awarded for the Apollo Scholarship.

The Apollo Scholarships are awarded annually to local third or fourth-year medical students who plan to continue on in the medical field. The scholarships are funded through contributions from community partners.

This year’s recipients are:

Reginald Harris, a student at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Georgia Campus. He plans to be an Emergency Medicine physician in the area and looks forward to playing an active role in the community and providing education and high-quality patient care to those in need. Reggie plans to keep in line with the Apollo Scholarship mission by engaging in the development of future medical professions.

Lee H. Quist, a student at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Lee is interested in Family Medicine and Primary Care Sports Medicine, possibly focusing on non-surgical management of orthopedic conditions in an office setting while working actively as a family practitioner. He plans on returning with all his knowledge and hopes for the future to Cambria County.

The Apollo Award Ceremony will also recognize honorees, Dr. Joel E. Borkow, Dr. Jerry L. Gray, and Dr. J. Michael Moses for their commitment to the quality of life for residents of the region.
