An Important Opportunity for Nonprofits

CFA created Will Week as a response to a national need to increase awareness of the role of estate planning and to shine a spotlight on the power of planned giving. According to a 2024 survey conducted by Caring.com, only 32 percent of Americans have a will. This is a 6 percent decrease from 2023, indicating the first decline in estate planning rates since 2020. Our hope is that Will Week makes end-of-life planning a priority for people in our community so that the ways they wish to support their family and charity are properly documented and carried out after their passing.

Will Week 2025 is scheduled for April 21-25. During the month of April, the Foundation will be promoting the importance of estate planning to our community. We’ve engaged local attorneys to offer their services at a discounted rate of 15 percent off for new clients who contact them during Will Week to schedule an appointment.

Sharing information about Will Week with your network is a great opportunity to encourage your donors to consider supporting your organization or CFA fund through their estate. The Community Foundation has created some materials that you can use; simply click below to find what you need.

If you would like to talk more about Will Week or how your organization can create a planned giving program, please contact Katrina Perkosky, Director of Donor Services, at 814-208-8411 or [email protected].

If you have yet to officially prepare a will, consider doing so during the Community Foundation’s annual Will Week. This year’s Will Week will be held from April 21-25. If you call any of the participating attorneys during Will Week, you will receive a 15% discount on estate planning services.

As a nonprofit, we see firsthand every day the importance of planning for the future, and now is a critical time to prepare. According to a Transfer of Wealth Study prepared by the Center for Rural Pennsylvania, approximately $5.3 billion will be transferred from one generation to the next within Bedford, Cambria, Somerset, and Indiana counties alone over the next ten years.

Will Week is here to help you get prepared for whatever the future may bring. To get started, visit cfalleghenies.org/willweek/. To learn more about the transfer of wealth in Pennsylvania, click here.
