Craftwork Studios is a maker’s space and nonprofit for creatives, entrepreneurs, and community involvement in downtown Johnstown. It is under new leadership with Daniel Foshee.
Foshee has been teaching an Introduction to Safe Mushroom Hunting class around and outside of Johnstown for years and had been a member of Craftwork for nearly a year before taking the helm.
“I love the sewing room and have been building my small businesses here with the many resources,” said Foshee.
The building is behind The Write Cup coffee shop along the square at 134 Gazebo Park and will continue to provide resources for creators 24/7 and classes such as art and crafts but is also heading in a new direction with ‘rustic crafting.’ That means there will be classes on sustainable living like food preservation, bread making, sewing, fermentation, and other skills that are useful to keep home costs down and provide healthy body and mind. Canning and jarring, sourdough and other types of bread making, will be classes given by members and those from the general community that have skill in an area. They will receive compensation for teaching these useful classes in such times of need where we have natural disasters, pandemics, and high grocery bills.
Foshee believes passionately in creating local resources and believes in the soul of Johnstown. There are memberships for creatives and classes of all kinds that are open to anyone. Want to teach something? Want to get involved with a community of creatives including artists, writers, musicians, homesteaders, and foragers? This space focuses on education, enrichment, and building community networks. Individual and private group classes and events are available.
Many of the makers will also be selling their wares at the building and workshops for entrepreneurs will be held at 5:30 PM on the first Monday of every month.
