SUMMARY:Santa Fund Senior Soccer Classic
DESCRIPTION:For the 6th year in a row\, the Greater Johnstown School District is hosting the Cambria-Somerset Senior All-Star Soccer Classic\, benefitting the Santa Fund. \nSince it was created 8 years ago\, the Santa Fund has distributed more than $200\,000 in toys to children throughout our region. This effort has many partners: Girl Scouts\, the Alternative Community Resource Program’s Family Center\, AmeriCorps\, Boscov’s\, WRCO Radio\, the United Way of the Laurel Highlands\, The Tribune-Democrat\, and the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies. \nWhat the group has done has been outstanding—over 15\,000 Christmas gifts have gone to children who otherwise may have had none. \nThe Greater Johnstown School District has offered once again to organize a Cambria-Somerset Senior All-Star Soccer Classic to benefit the Santa Fund. \nOn Saturday\, November 19\, 2016 at Trojan Stadium\, a doubleheader will be held featuring all-star senior girls and then senior boys teams. The girls’ game will start at 1:15 with boys’ game immediately afterwards. \nThe Santa Fund partners are seeking sponsorships for this event at the following levels: \n\n$1\,000 to become a Santa’s Reindeer\n$500 to become a Santa’s Elf\n$250 to become a Santa’s Helper\n\nYour sponsorship will be featured in The Tribune-Democrat promotions\, WCRO Radio\, over the PA system\, and in the Roster Guide at Trojan Stadium. For commitments of $500 and above\, your logo or name will appear on the players’ game shirts. Your support will help to present the game and all net revenue\, every penny\, will go directly for more toys for kids in our area. \nYou can also become a Santa Booster for a $25 donation. Boosters will be listed in the Roster Guide to be distributed on game day and in The Tribune-Democrat. \nThis is a great cause and a great testament to our community. Proceeds from the event will go towards the Christopher “Bub” Ream Memorial Scholarship. It provides two annual scholarships for Somerset Area High School senior football players and also provides for other areas of community support.

DESCRIPTION:The Johnstown Walk of Hope will take place on Saturday June 4 from 9 a.m. to midnight at Johnstown Trojan Stadium\, Central Avenue. Laurel Auto Group/Ann Harris Smith Foundation is sponsoring this community event that is for anyone whose life has been touched by cancer and wants to help raise awareness and raise money. What makes the Johnstown Walk of Hope different is that ALL of the donations will stay LOCAL to support cancer patients\, families\, caregivers and organizations that care for cancer. The Johnstown Walk of Hope fund is now open at the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies. \nProceeds from the Johnstown Walk of Hope will benefit local cancer patients and their families and cancer nonprofits\, including Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center/Windber Research Institute\, 1889 Foundation for patients at the Conemaugh Cancer Center\, UPMC Cancer Center\, and the newly created Children are Precious Fund\, which supports families who need to travel out of the Johnstown Area for treatment.

SUMMARY:Brad Wess Memorial Scholastic Showcase
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, March 19\, family\, friends\, students\, and the hockey community will come together to remember and honor Bradley Wess. \nThe 16- year old died in an automobile accident on Oct. 19\, 2007. He was a junior at Forest Hills High School\, where he achieved high honors and also participated in hockey. He planned to study for a career in engineering after graduation. To celebrate Brad’s life and continue his legacy the ‘Brad Wess Memorial Scholastic Showcase’ was created in his memory. \nIt’s the 9th year for the memorial game held in Johnstown and it’s given more than $11\,000 in scholarships to area seniors. The scholarships are awarded at the end of the game by Brad’s family in his honor.
